The diesel engine has come on so well over the last ten years so much that it has started putting petrol engines a run for their money!
The additions of Turbo’s and Intercoolers have really given the diesels a lot of grunt and torque twinned with the short ratio gears really makes the diesels performance a lot better than it used to be.
It’s always worth hunting for a common rail injection system or a direct injection engine as they are good on performance and even friendlier on economy. You will find these engines run a lot smoother and often quieter if looked after.
As well as their economy the diesel engine is well known for its durability. If maintained and serviced regularly these engines can last a long time. Our previous experience has seen 160,000 miles up to 250,000 miles but obviously this is not guaranteed on every diesel engine.
There is no doubt that if its performance you are after then petrol is the way forward but if you cover a large amount of miles in your ride then the diesels economy is more suited to you.
