Camshaft
- What is it?
- What does it do?
What is it?
The camshaft is smaller piece of metal, shaped similarly to the crankshaft. It sits in a channel at the top of the cylinder head.
What does it do?
The camshaft spins round by a cog which completes the timing system by a belt or chain. The camshaft has grooves that allow the valves to be opened and closed in time with the strokes of the crankshaft.
