  • What is it?

As cat converters are expensive to replace an alternative to a full exhaust system is whats called "Cat-back" system. In this system you will get a backbox with a tailpipe, and a mid section pipe sometimes with a centre box depending on you vehicle's spec. If your system does not have a centre box you will then be supplied with a straight through mid pipe.

    What are the advantages?

If you are looking for an increase in performance without spending over the odds then a Cat-back system is probably the best choice when it comes to exhausts. It wont give you a massive increase in performance nor will it give you a huge power increase but a decent Cat back system and and air filter (see engine mods for more info) will result in a noticeable difference

    What are the disadvantages?

As with all aftermarket exhausts systems they never fit 100%. To avoid getting yourself in a muddle its always worth paying the professionals that little bit extra to fit your new exhaust system. This will save you a big headache in the long run.

With Cat-back systems that don't have a centre box expect a bit more of a drone in the sound of the exhaust, especially from the inside of the car.
