Typical Backbox/Tailpipe

  • What is it?

The back box or tailpipe is the final piece of the exhaust system on your car. The backbox itself it the final box on the system and the tailpipe is the piece of pipe that exits the box and comes to an end./p>

Both the backbox and tailpipe can normally be seen form the back of the car that is why people tend to want it to look nice.

In our eyes we would recommend that you fit a backbox with a tailpipe design built in instead of just a tailpipe it self. Tailpipes on there own tend to look a little tacky unless you have gone for a full custom designed exhaust system.

    What are the advantages?

Fitting just a tailpipe to your ride will give you a nicer look to the rear of your ride without you spending to much or benefiting from a louder exhaust tone.

If it's the sound your after then you want to look at the backbox side of things here. An aftermarket back box will give you a nicer tone to your exhaust and they normally come with a selection of different tailpipe options.

    What are the disadvantages?

There are a lot of universal or cheap exhaust manufacturers out there, they mass produce exhausts to fit "any" car. This is generally not possibly so you will find you will have to modify your exhaust system to fit it.

Some of the cheaper branded exhaust manufacturers sell exhausts that are just plain loud and noisey. There are ideally the ones to miss and leave on the shelf as they are just annoying.

    Tips:

With exhaust systems its worth looking around before you buy one. It would be a good move to head to a cruise or show to look for people with aftermarket exhausts a car the same as yours. This will give you an idea of what the differenece between the exhaust manufacturers on the market are and it may help you choose the right choice.
